Our Practice

Dakota Hills Veterinary Clinic was originally founded in 1947, when it was called Norris Veterinary Service. Back then, it was a mere two room “cow camp” and most of the services offered were for large animals. In 1984, the practice name was changed to Dakota Hills Veterinary Clinic and with that name change came the first initial phases of transition into what today is a comprehensive and progressive veterinary practice.

Over the years, our practice has seen many changes as we’ve improved our technology and equipment, expanded our services and assembled a team of highly skilled, caring veterinary professionals. The one thing that hasn’t changed, however, is our unwavering commitment to improving the lives of our patients, and helping each one of them enjoy as many happy, healthy years as possible. It is this dedication that allows us to deliver the most effective, comprehensive care available in the Rapid City and Black Hills area.

Our hospital is made complete with an incredible team of veterinarians, technicians, assistants and support personnel who are passionate about animal health care. We love what we do, and we love working for you, our most valued asset. In fact, most of our staff has been with DHVC for nearly a decade and we’re still going strong! Why? Because we cherish the special relationships we’ve built with you, and the lifelong bonds we’ve formed with your pets.

The services provided to our patients include just about anything you could ever need to keep your animal friend happy and healthy, from wellness care and preventative medicine to advanced diagnostic testing to complex surgery and more. We also offer full service boarding and training classes to provide for all of your pet care needs in one convenient location. Our patients include traditional companion animals, such as dogs and cats, as well as pocket pets, birds, reptiles and exotics.

Our hospital is housed in a state of the art building that is clean, spacious and fully equipped for all of your pet’s veterinary care needs. We have a warm, welcoming waiting area, several modern exam rooms, cutting edge in-house diagnostic equipment, an on-site pharmacy for all of your pet prescription needs and a well stocked retail store, offering a broad range of high quality pet care products. We also have large, comfortable boarding facilities to accommodate our overnight or long-term guests.

While our focus is primarily on wellness and preventative medicine, because we feel that this provides our patients with the best possible chance at living long, healthy lives, we’re also well equipped and fully prepared to deal with any medical need that may arise for your pet. Should an emergency arise after our regular business hours, our staff will help refer your pet to a local emergency referral facility for immediate veterinary care and we will resume care the next day. We want to be absolutely certain that our clients and patients are always taken care of and receive the best possible care whenever it’s needed.

Above all else, what sets Dakota Hills Veterinary Clinic apart and makes us the trusted resource for veterinary care for so many pet owners in Black Hills, Rapid City and surrounding communities is the way we treat our clients and the animals that they love. Before we are vets, technicians, assistants and receptionists, we are loving, dedicated pet parents to special animal friends with whom we share our lives. We promise to always treat your pet with the same care and compassion that we would our very own animal companions and to consistently deliver the very best possible care and service with each and every interaction.

New clients are always welcome. Come on in and join the Dakota Hills family! We can’t wait to meet you!
